Milestones of History

Ancient Era: Klazomenai & Limantepe

Settlements dating back to the 4th millennium BC. The important Ionian port city of Klazomenai was founded here. Excavations reveal continuous life since the Bronze Age.

Byzantine & Ottoman Periods

Thanks to its strategic location, Urla became a key trade center. Olive oil and wine production flourished. Historic stone houses and mosques still stand as reminders.

War of Independence

In 1919, the first armed resistance against Greek occupation in Western Anatolia began in Urla. This marked one of the earliest sparks of the Turkish national struggle.
